Bengali actor Rooqma Ray 'insulted' during stage show, asked to leave dais for clicking selfie
Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actor and singer Rooqma Ray faced a shocking incident where she was asked to leave the dais by one of the organisers during a stage show at Khanakul in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.
Speaking to IBNS, Rooqma said she was asked to leave the stage when she was taking a selfie with some of her fans.
Even before she reached the stage, Rooqma alleged mismanagement by the organisers as she and her team had to walk up to the dais as no vehicle was arranged for her.
She said, "My car couldn't reach the stage. An auto or a toto were needed to reach there... I was asked to cover the distance by walking. It was not possible for me to walk in the middle of the crowd.
"Then one of the organisers came up to me and offered me a bike ride to reach the venue which I turned down as he was an unknown person. After an altercation, me and my team had to walk to reach the stage."
After she reached the stage, all was going well for Rooqma until the same person, who had offered the bike ride, "shouted" at her for taking selfies with some of her fans, the actor claimed.
Rooqma said, "After my second song, some boys approached me for a selfie. I asked for one phone from them and clicked a selfie. The audience was extremely well behaved and patient. Suddenly the person, whose bike ride I had refused, shouted at me and said 'You were brought here to sing, not for your promotion. Leave the stage.'.
"When I asked him to repeat it on the microphone, he said it again. So I left the stage and sat in the green room for almost 20 minutes. He also accused me of being late for two hours, which was a lie. Then he said that my refusal of his bike ride offer was my mistake. Instead of apologising, he asked me to leave the venue and boasted that he has other singers to continue with the show. After hearing this, I left."
Rooqma, who is a prominent face on television and now ventured into OTT space, shared this was a rare incident which she faced a couple of days ago.
The actor, who does a lot of stage shows in the outskirts, said, "I have done a lot of shows. I have never experienced this before. No one has behaved so badly as he did. I am very disappointed, mostly for the audience who were deprived of the show."
On the work front, Rooqma, who earned fame on TV with popular daily soaps Kiranmala, Desher Mati et al, has last featured in web series Roktokorobi, which premiered on Zee5 earlier this year.
She will next be seen in Hoichoi's upcoming web series Noshtoneer.
