I am completely dependent on my directors: 'Chirosakha Hey' actor Ishan Mazumder
Actor Ishan Mazumder will be featuring alongside Tnusree Chakraborty in filmmaker Argha Deep Chatterjee's upcoming romantic Bengali film Chirosakha Hey. Ahead of the Mar 17 release, IBNS correspondent Souvik Ghosh catches up with Ishan
Q. Tell us about your character.
A. My character's name is also Ishaan. He is a bohemian, impulsive painter-photographer-musician. I have never played such a type of character. Mostly I have played corporate roles in films but this is the first time I have been deconstructed both look wise and in terms of mannerisms. He only lives in his artistic zone without bothering anything else in his life.
Q. Were you looking for this role which will force you to deconstruct yourself or it just happened?
A. Yes, I was actually waiting for this kind of a role which will help me to break the stereotype. But Argha Deep not just roped me to play a romantic role but also transformed my entire look. Moreover, Tnusree's agreeing to work with me was a huge thing for me (laughs).
Q. How was working with Tnusree Chakraborty?
A. She was very good. Though I have worked with Tnusree as a part of an ensemble cast in the past, this is the first time we have worked as a lead pair. I found her very humble. We didn't require any ice-breaking moment since we gelled up so naturally. We had turned into friends.
Q. How was the process of deconstructing yourself?
A. It was quite exciting to go through the transformation. Moreover, Argha Deep himself is very bohemian so I followed him as well to craft my character.
Q. So you were very dependent on your director.
A. Yes of course. I rest on directors in every film. I offer some inputs but ultimately I depend on directors and follow their directive. This is because only directors conceive the idea.
Q. Did your non-filmy background help you in achieving spontaneity in acting?
A. Obviously it helps. Since I have worked in the corporate sector, I am well accustomed to dealing with many people. So I am able to work as per my director.
