Kolkata-born US filmmaker Sriyanka Ray wins Emmy for documentary a year after she died
Late Kolkata-born US filmmaker Sriyanka Ray on Saturday posthumously won her independent Emmy award as a director and producer for her documentary ‘Homeroom Dreams'.

According to reports, Ray, 33, died after suffering a sudden illness last year while she was holidaying in Bolivia.
Her documentary explores the housing problem faced by poor people in New York.
She reportedly won the award in the category of "education/school-short or long form content."
This was her first independent Emmy win after receiving 13 nominations.
Ray studied in La Martiniere for Girls School in Kolkata and then at Presidency University before joining Jadavpur University.
She shifted to New York in 2012 for her master's program.
Praising her achievement, her mother Ishita Ray told NewsBytes: "It is such a joyous moment. Our daughter should have been there to receive this award."
One netizen Pallavii wrote on X:" Ray, a Kolkata-born US-based filmmaker who tragically passed away last year at the age of 33, has been honoured posthumously with her first independent Emmy for directing and producing Homeroom Dreams.
