Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman and his wife Saira have decided to separate after nearly 30 years of marriage.
"After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have made the difficult decision to separate from each other," read a statement from Vandana Shah and Associates, their lawyer as quoted by Indian news channel NDTV.
"Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time," the statement said.

AR Rahman expressed sadness that they could not reach the 'grand thirty'.
In an X post, the Indian music composer wrote, "We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts."

AR Rahman and Saira got married in 1995.
They have three children.
Rahman is a recipient of six National Film Awards, two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe Award, six Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, fifteen Filmfare Awards, and eighteen Filmfare Awards South.
In 2010, the Government of India conferred him with the Padma Bhushan, the nation's third-highest civilian award.
