Archery glory for India as Sahil Rajesh Jadhav strikes gold, silver at World University Games
Kolkata: Sahil Rajesh Jadhav, a rising Indian archer from the Sports Authority of India’s National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Kolkata, scripted history at the FISU World University Games 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, by winning both gold and silver medals.

Jadhav clinched the gold in the men’s individual compound archery final after edging out Great Britain’s Ajay Scott 149−148 in a nerve-wracking contest.
He followed it up with a silver in the men’s compound team event, where India narrowly lost to Turkey 231−232.
The World University Games, which concluded on July 27, brought together top university athletes from across the globe.
In the high-stakes archery finals, Jadhav’s composure and precision stood out, earning India a coveted gold and adding to the country’s growing presence in international compound archery.
“It is an honour to represent my country on such a prestigious platform,” Jadhav said after the win. “Winning gold for India is a dream come true. I dedicate this victory to my coaches, family, support staff, and everyone who has stood by me throughout this journey.”
Jadhav has been training at SAI NCOE Kolkata under Archery Coach Haresh Kumar since March 2022.
His double-medal feat was hailed by officials, with Amar Jyoti, Regional Director-in-Charge of SAI NCOE Kolkata.
“A standing ovation for your remarkable accomplishment! You have set a new standard for excellence. Everyone at SAI and the entire archery fraternity is incredibly proud of your success. Keep the flag flying high,” said Jyoti.
