Mumbai/IBNS: Top-order batter Shubman Gill, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and allrounder Washington Sundar powered India to slam 263 in their first innings of the third and final Test against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.

After India's harakiri in the last few overs of the day's play on Friday, Gill and Pant scored their respective half-centuries this morning in quick time.

Gill was dismissed for 90 from 146 balls, Pant scored quick 60 from 59 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes against his name.

Sundar's unbeaten 38 from 36 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes helped India take a 28-run lead over New Zealand in the first innings.

Spin bowler Ajaz Patel picked five wickets for New Zealand conceding 103 runs in 21.4 overs.

Towards the end of first day's play, India lost back to back wickets in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal, nightwatchman Mohammed Siraj and a shocking dismissal of Virat Kohli who took an attempt to steal a quick run.

On day 1, India bowled out New Zealand for 235. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer with 82 from 129 balls.

Ravindra Jadeja picked 5 wickets for India.
