India announce squad for England T20I series, Mohammad Shami returns
The Indian cricket board on Saturday announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against England, with Mohammad Shami making his return to the team.
Shami last featured for India in the Final of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in November 2023, and has since been out of the side after undergoing ankle surgery and knee issues.
Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal were both missing from the squad, with Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel set to take up wicketkeeping responsibilities. Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered back issues during the Sydney Test, has also been left out.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, and Washington Sundar all feature in the squad, despite missing out on India's last T20I assignment against South Africa, given they were part of the Test tour in Australia.
Jitesh Sharma, Avesh Khan, Ramandeep Singh, Yash Dayal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak, all of whom featured in the squad for the T20Is in South Africa, miss out.
India will take on England in five T20Is from January 22 in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai.
The series will be followed by three ODIs in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad – India's only ODI outings ahead of the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played in Pakistan and Dubai from 19 February.
