Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya named MI skipper for upcoming season, replaces Rohit Sharma
Mumbai Indians on Friday named Hardik Pandya as the skipper for the upcoming Indian Premier League season in 2024.

The replacement means Rohit Sharma's tenure as the skipper of the side ends.
Sharma had guide the franchisee to five IPL titles in his career.
Pandya, under whose leadership Gujarat Titans won the IPL title in 2022, returned to MI as part of a sensational trade move.
Commenting on this transition Mahela Jayawardene, Global Head of Performance, Mumbai Indians said “It is part of legacy building and staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready."
He said: "Mumbai Indians have always been blessed with exceptional leadership right from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who while contributing to the immediate success have always had an eye on strengthening the team for the future."
He said: "It is in keeping with this philosophy that Hardik Pandya will assume captaincy of Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season."
Jayawardene praised Sharma for his 'extraordinary leadership'.
