Ireland clinched a thrilling one-wicket victory in the second and final T20I on Sunday to complete a stunning 2-0 whitewash over the World Champions.

The unexpected loss has triggered widespread criticism of Gambhir, with trolls targeting the former India opener not only on Indian social media but also from overseas.

Iceland Cricket joins the trolling

Adding to the criticism, Iceland Cricket took a sarcastic dig at Gambhir with a post on X after India's series defeat.

Mocking the Indian coach's record, the official account wrote: "We can confirm that we don't wish to add Gautam Gambhir to our coaching staff.

"He clearly has talent, though. To take those Indian players and deliver those results in Ireland takes truly remarkable gifts."

Sanjay Manjrekar questions team combination

Former India cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar also criticised India's team selection, blaming the overuse of all-rounders and the lack of a specialist middle-order batter.

He wrote on X: "It was too little earlier… under Gambhir, it's too many. The 'all-rounders'. India need a PURE middle-order batter, pronto!"

'India failed to beat Irish conditions'

Manjrekar further suggested that India struggled more with the playing conditions than with the opposition.

In another post on X, he wrote: "This series was always about beating the Irish conditions rather than the Ireland cricket team. India failed at that. Let's see now what learnings India take into England."

The defeat marks one of India's most surprising bilateral T20I series losses in recent years and has intensified the spotlight on Gambhir ahead of the team's upcoming tour of England.
