1,385 kgs dry cannabis (Ganja) seized from Sidhai by BSF, 3 arrested
The Border Guards posted in Tripura have apprehended three drug smugglers and seized huge quantities of dry Cannabis worth Rs.2.7 crore from Urabari village of Barakathal of Sidhai under West Tripura district on Sunday night.
BSF sources said that the Border Guards is fully committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from Tripura and making “Tripura - A Drug-Free State" Resultantly, BSF has been conducting a special drive against trans-border smugglers, particularly of narcotics, drugs and succeeded in neutralizing them at regular intervals independently as well as in close association with other sister Agencies.
BSF sources added that in the wee hours of March 26, a specific Intelligence input was received indicating the stocking of a huge consignment of Ganja (cannabis) in a house. Based on the information, a joint operation was planned and carried out in the house of a suspected person of village Urabari, Barakathal under Sidhai police station of West Tripura district and a smuggler was apprehended on the spot.
During preliminary cross-examination, apprehended smuggler revealed the name of the main Kingpin resident of the same area and other associates. The tip further led to the search of their houses, and Ganja was recovered. A total worth Rs 2,07,75,000, weighing 1385 kilograms of Ganja was recovered clandestinely hidden underground in their houses where all three accused smugglers including the kingpin were apprehended.
It is pertinent to mention that the BSF Tripura is committed to thwarting the attempts being made by trans-border criminals, smugglers by taking all possible proactive measures and is frequently confiscating huge quantities of contraband giving big jolts to trans-border smugglers, particularly narcotics and drug traffickers during 'Anti-Smuggling Drives' in the state.
