34 Bangladeshi, two Rohingyas arrested from different parts of Tripura for illegal entry
Despite strong surveillance in entire stretch of India-Bangladesh along with Tripura after unrest in Bangladesh to stop any attempt infiltration by Bangladeshi anti-social elements, Altogether 34 Bangladesh nationals and two Rohingyas including women, transgender and a tout, were arrested by the security forces from different parts of the state and the infiltration from the neighbouring country into Tripura unabated.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel posted at Agartala Railway station arrested 23 Bangladeshi nationals including a tout from Agartala Railway station for entering India illegally on Sunday.
In two other operations, the BSF along with police has arrested five Bangladeshi including women and a third gender from Amtali area two more Rohingyas were arrested from Tilla Bazar area of North Tripura police district and six more Bangladeshi from Agartala airport on Sunday.
Six more Bangladeshi youths were arrested from Agartala airport after CISF jawans noticed their suspected movements and detained them. During investigation, all the detained Bangladeshi youths were unable to produce any valid documents for travelling in India.
Later, police personnel from Airport police station rushed to the spot and arrested them. On Sunday police forwarded all arrested six Bangladeshi to local court for further legal proceedings.
The bordering Tripura, which is a top hotspot travelling destination for human trafficking, specially for Rohingyas and Bangladesh nationals, who were illegally entered into Indian territory and moves towards other parts of the country through different means of surface communication with help of Indian and Bangladeshi touts, but many time, the alert security forces have also managed to detain them.
In its latest edition, altogether 23 Bangladeshi nationals, including a tout, were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP) from Agartala Railway station for entering India illegally on Sunday.
Officials said that the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel arrested the Bangladeshi nationals at the Agartala railway station on Saturday night as they were trying to board a train to travel to other Indian states via Guwahati.
The Bangladeshi nationals, aged between 19 years to 40 years and residents of Bangladesh's Chapai Nababganj district in Rajshahi Division, said OC of GRP of Agartala railway station, Tapash das and added that they came to India in search of jobs.
The Rajshahi Division, located in the North-western part of Bangladesh, one of the eight divisions of the country has no border with Tripura but in the recent past many nationals of the region entered Tripura, said Das.
A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said that the paramilitary forces are cracking down heavily on the illegal migration by Bangladeshi nationals and have stepped up the vigil in close coordination with sister agencies in the border area.
Following the direction of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the BSF has stepped up its drive against illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and all field formations are actively breaking down the nexus of touts in the bordering areas.
BSF through a press statement said that on Sunday morning a joint Mobile Check Post (MCP) of BSF and police personnel from Amtali police station apprehended five Bangladeshi including 3 male, one female and a transgender.
Arrested persons were identified as MD Tamim Hussain (18), Biplab Banik(53), Utpala Banik (42 wife of Biplab Banik), Nijhar Banik(17), all are from Rajsahi and Feni districts and Juli Pal (transgender) age 18 years was from Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.
In another incident two Rohingyas Illegal migrants were apprehended by alert BSF troops in the bordering area of Tillabazar border outpost (BOP) under North Tripura district while they were trying to enter into Indian territory. The information provided by them has also led to the apprehension of one suspected tout. Questioning is in progress.
BSF has enhanced the vigil and operations along the border to foil the attempts of infiltrators and touts.
It may be recalled here that Tripura Frontier Inspector General Patel Piyush Purushottam Das said that 95 percent of the 856 km India-Bangladesh border with Tripura has already been fenced, while fencing work is going on in the remaining 27.5 km.
Over the last two-and-a-half months, more than 150 Bangladeshi nationals and 32 Rohingyas were arrested by the GRP, BSF and Tripura Police from the Agartala railway station and various other places in Tripura after they illegally entered India.
Officials said that all the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas illegally entered Tripura to board trains or buses to go to other states in India “in search of jobs”.
During the past few weeks, Bangladesh witnessed waves of deadly violence and clashes during the quota reform protests claiming the lives of over 170 people and injuring over a thousand.
