48 CPI (M) members from Tripura to attend 24th party Congress in Madurai

Altogether 48-member delegation from Tripura will participate in the five-day CPI (M) party Congress scheduled to be held in Tamil Nadu's Madurai city.

The delegation includes CPI (M) state secretary and leader of opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury and former Chief Minister and politburo member Manik Sarkar.

Jitendra Chaudhury speaking with media persons on Saturday said that a total of 48 party members have been chosen in the state party conference, held in January last to attend the 24th CPI(M) party Congress, which will be held from April 2 to 6 in Madurai and two observers.

All the delegates from the state are scheduled to leave the state for Madurai by March 31 to join the five-day CPI(M) party congress scheduled to commence on April 2. Besides, 40 delegates, two observers and six party's central committee members will join the session, said Chaudhury.

Chaudhury said the party strategy adopted in the 23rd CPI(M) party congress held in Kerala's Kannur will be discussed threadbare in the upcoming party Congress.

In the last 23rd party congress, the party laid emphasis on strengthening its own organization because no one will give due importance if we are not organized. Besides, the party congress also had given emphasis on bringing secular forces to a common platform to fight against  BJP, said Chaudhury.

Chaudhury said all these issues will be thoroughly scrutinized in the 24th CPI(M) party Congress before preparing a way forward for the party.

The party has achieved success in bringing all secular parties to a common platform in the last Lok Sabha elections by restricting the BJP as far as seat tally is concerned but could not defy the RSS-backed party from forming the union government, he said.

Chaudhury said organizational shortcomings will also come up for discussion in the Madurai meeting.

It may be recalled here that  on January 31st last, after three-day long 24th state conference of CPI (M), all 411 delegates from eight districts of Tripura unanimously elected incumbent state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury as new secretary for next three years and a state committee comprising 60 members has been constituted for the next three years.

Giving details, Jitendra Chaudhury said that the Central Committee of the party has decided that those party leaders are above 75 years of age, will not given any responsibility for any committee and with a special provision of the constitution of the party and after approval from the politburo members including Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Ashok Dhawale, the state conference elected Narayan Kar and Pabitra Kar as special invitee members of CPI(M) state committee.

Similarly, former Chief Minister and incumbent politburo member Manik Sarkar, who has passed 75 years of age, but he is very active in politics with sound health, the state conference unanimously sought approval of party’s politburo for induction of Manik Sarkar as a active member of the CPI(M) state committee, said Chaudhury and the state conference has also accepted the proposal.

In the 60 member state committee, 14 committee members were also inducted in the party’s state secretariat with induction of two members including former MP Sankar Prasad Datta and Ratan Saha of Sonamura were also inducted in the secretariat.

The 67-year-old Left leader Chaudhury, former Lok Sabha member and ex-minister, was first to become the Tripura state CPI (M) Secretary in 2022 and said that a 62-member state committee including seven women and a 14-member secretariat have been formed unanimously.
