In a major success in the ongoing anti-drug drive, police seized a huge consignment of around 80,000 Yaba tablets from a stone-laden truck in the Jolaibari area of South Tripura district. Three persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure.
Police sources said that acting on a tip-off, personnel from the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) police personnel from Baikhora police station and Jolaibari Outpost conducted a joint operation in the area. During the operation, police searched a stone-laden truck bearing registration number TR-05-H1-813 and recovered the large quantity of Yaba tablets, which was coming from Dharmanagar of North Tripura district and loaded with stone bolders.
The seized Yaba tablets are estimated to have a market value of approximately Rs 3 crore, according to preliminary information.
Three persons were arrested from the spot following the recovery. The seizure has triggered considerable tension in the Jolaibari area, with investigators now probing how such a large quantity of narcotics was being transported in the truck and whether other individuals are involved in the alleged drug trafficking network.
Following the operation, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bapi Debbarma and Baikhora police station Officer-in-Charge Arun Das briefed the media about the details of the operation. The SDPO said that police operations against the illegal drug trade would continue in the coming days.
With 80,000 Yaba tablets worth around Rs 3 crore recovered and three persons detained, investigators are now focusing on the next stage of the probe to uncover the wider network behind the consignment.
