Three days BSF-BGB regional meeting in Agartala from Dec 7
A three-day regional conference between the Border Security Force (BSF) and its Bangladesh counterpart Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) will start at Agartala on December 7 next to discuss various issues related to the border.
BSF sources said that BSF’s Inspector General (IG) rank officers of Tripura, Mizoram and Meghalaya frontiers will join the meeting, which will be attended by the South-East and North-South regional commanders of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
All the border issues - border patrolling, smuggling, infiltration and barbed wire fencing - are expected to come up for discussion in the three-day conference and it will be a routine exercise, said a top BSF official.
He said that earlier, the BSF-BGB regional level meeting used to take place once a year. It has later been decided that the border guards of the two neighbouring countries will meet two times in a year to enhance cooperation and better border management among the border guards.
Meanwhile, BSF will celebrate its raising day on 1st December , which has emerged to be the world's largest Border Guarding Force and India's First Line of Defence.
BSF through a press release said that the international boundary all along Tripura measuring 856 km is being guarded by the BSF with a high level of zeal and motivated Bordermen deployed in the state to deliver their best in adverse humid tropical weather and challenging conditions. Field formations under Tripura Frontier have launched various operations and special drives against interstate and cross-border smuggling and contrabands including narcotics particularly Ganja and Yaba Tablets. During the year till 30th November 2022, BSF deployed on the Tripura border seized contraband, smuggled goods worth Rupees 27,53,56,439 in addition to the destruction of 28,08,100 numbers of Ganja plants cultivated in 726.244 acres in joint operations with the Forest Department and local Police. Further, apprehended 163 Indian nationals, 138 Bangladesh nationals and 59 Rohingyas on the International border.
BSF Tripura is also celebrating the 58th BSF Raising day all over the state by conducting various programs like Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Rozgar Mela, Ayushman CAPF Yojana, Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, cycle rally, civic action programs, Medical etc.
