A five-star heritage hotel to be set up in capital city: CM

Tripura is all set to get a five-star heritage hotel in Agartala city and renowned hoteliers Tata group will set up the heritage hotel.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha addressing the 55th annual conference of Tripura State Engineers Association (TSEA) at Nazrul Kalakshetra auditorium said that the government had discussions with the Tata group for setting up a heritage five-star hotel. This will be a game changer for the state as it proposes to have four to five exclusive rooms apart from hundreds of royal rooms.
Dr Saha added that Tata has a worldwide hotel chain and tourists can come from foreign nations by chartered flights and stay in the exclusive rooms.
Definitely foreign tourists will not confine themselves to the hotel. They will visit tourist destinations like Neermahal, Rudrasagar, Unakoti archaeological site, Chhabimura and Dumboor lake etc and it will generate more employment in the state with direct employment of 200 persons.
The CM, however, did not specify where the hotel will be set up.
In December, 2024 last, the opposition CPI(M) and ruling alliance Tipra Motha had strongly opposed the government's plan for converting the move to privatize the iconic Pushpabanta Palace and convert it into a five-star hotel by a private group.
Built in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya, the palace was used as the Raj Bhavan until 2018. Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's 80th birthday was celebrated in Pushpabanta Palace in May 1941.
It may be recalled here that leaders of ruling alliance Tipra-Motha during their protest in front of the palace in December last said that the iconic 107-year-old Pushpabanta Palace is a historical structure not only for the tribals but for the entire people of the state.
“Tipra-Motha not against the development of Tripura and the growth of the state's tourism, but not at the cost of the historical assets of the state and added that the Pushpabanta Palace is the valued property of the people of Tripura, and the government cannot hand over the historical assets to others for doing business,” said a top Motha leader and added that that Motha will continue their protests until the state government gives up its plan.
While, Chief Minister also said the government is contemplating constructing four flyovers to ease traffic congestion in the capital town. Currently, Agartala city has one flyover.
"We are planning to construct four flyovers to address the traffic congestion in the city. I have already asked the PWD secretary to explore from where funds can be managed for the projects", he said.
Dr Saha also highly praised the efforts of state’s engineers for overall development of the state in all infrastructural sectors.
