A total of Rs. 58.34 crore contraband items seized by BSF in 2022
Border Security Force since its inception in the year 1965 has always dedicated its services to the nation maintaining exemplary standards of bravery and professionalism. It continues handling multifarious challenges involving national security living up to the standard of the Force’s motto, ‘Jeevan Paryant Kartavya’.
In Tripura, BSF has been entrusted with the responsibility of guarding the international border with Bangladesh stretching up to 856 km. Over the years, BSF Tripura Frontier has performed multifarious responsibilities in fighting the insurgency maintaining the border's sanctity and preventing all kinds of trans-border crimes while working under adverse climatic conditions in remote and inhospitable terrain and highly malaria-infested zones in most parts of its operational areas. BSF Tripura frontier has always maintained good synergy with state government, the state police forces and other security and Intelligence agencies while managing its assigned task of safeguarding the borders and maintaining harmony amongst the border population.
In continuation of guarding the long border, BSF Tripura Frontier has achieved several milestones during the preceding year of 2022. During the year 2022, the BSF troops have maintained extremely high levels of surveillance and alertness. As a result, BSF has successfully rescued 1813 cattle heads and seized contraband items like Phensedyl 66,608 bottles, Ganja (cannabis) 18685 Kgs, Yaba tablets 1,14,658, Gold 86.252 grams, Silver 100 grams, Brown Sugar 1513.38 grams, arms and ammunition, Bangladesh currency 48,35,853 Taka and miscellaneous items worth Rs. 58,34,75,618 and also apprehended a total number of 59 Rohingya, 160 Indian and 150 Bangladeshi nationals in different operations. Ganja saplings approximately 24,93,300 that were being grown illegally on 644.71 acres in the state were also destroyed or uprooted during joint operations with sister agencies.
BSF being a border guarding force also looks after the populace residing in bordering areas and for their well-being, conducts various Civic Action Programs, which include free medical camps, skill development training, upscaling of Aapda Mitra, sports tournaments, cultural activities and also puts in efforts to help the needy people of the bordering area.
In order to promote national unity and integrity, BSF held a number of events throughout the current year under the slogan of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" including Band display, weapon display and Photo exhibition at various locations in Tripura. Besides, on the occasion of International Yoga Day, various yoga sessions were conducted at different locations in the state. In addition, numerous awareness drives such as 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, 'Har Ghar Tiranga' was organized at Frontier Agartala and all under command Sectors and Units up to BOPs. Pension Adalat for the redressal of pension-related grievances for Pensioners of BSF and a Rozgar Mela was organized at Frontier Agartala to hand over the Offer of appointment to new recruits.
Besides all of this, many initiatives were taken to improve basic infrastructure at the grass root level, so as to extend maximum facilities to Jawans in Tripura Frontier, keeping in view the welfare of Jawans and their family members, Family Welfare Centres are functional in each Unit where various civil, vocational courses are being organised for families of BSF personnel. In light of women's emancipation and gender parity, more than 200 Mahila Praharies of BSF Tripura Frontier are successfully safeguarding our nation's borders despite the vagaries of nature.
The IG BSF - Region Commanders BGB level Border Coordination Conference was held twice this year, once in Agartala and once in Dhaka, Bangladesh. During the conference, various issues of bilateral interest which would pave the way for enhancing the understanding and increased cooperation between both the Border Guarding Forces were discussed at length. Special emphasis was given to focused issues particularly insurgent activities, various trans-border crimes including smuggling of contraband items like drugs / narcotic substances, Border violations, pending infrastructural/developmental works and coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP). Issues related to confidence building amongst the troops of BSF and BGB as well as the local population on either side were also discussed also for greater synergy and fostering friendly relations a cycle rally from Agartala to Kolkata along the International border and many Football and Volleyball friendly matches were organised. Displaying a humanitarian approach BSF has handed over 11 BD Nationals to Border Guarding Bangladesh, who had inadvertently crossed the international border.
