Above 200 stranded students return to state from violence affected Manipur
With three special flights, the state government on Sunday evacuated as many as 208 stranded students from violence affected Manipur.
In the first hours of Sunday at about 1.40 AM, the first Indigo flight with 170 medical students studying in Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) at Imphal arrived at Agartala airport and 37 more students of Central Agriculture University has also arrived at Guwahati with another flight, who were , later brought to Agartala on Sunday afternoon.
The state government has already sent an Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of police and Director of Preventive Medicine to Imphal on Saturday to facilitate the travel of all stranded people in Manipur.
While, after arrival at Agartala airport at midnight, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury along with general secretaries of BJP Papiya Datta and Amit Rakshit gave a rousing welcome to all stranded students.
Tipra-Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Sunday afternoon has received about 50 more students, who were brought back to Agartala with personal expenses of Pradyot Kishore.
Official sources said that still there are at least 24 Tripura students stranded in Manipur and the government is trying to bring them back to Tripura.
Sources added that the government has already booked tickets for the remaining people and they will be arriving in the state capital within a few days.
Meanwhile, many students are still in Manipur and they will not return to the state as many of them are working in RIMS as interns and as Post-Graduate (PG) students.
On Sunday evening , many parents with their sons and daughters also met the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at his official residence to express their gratitude towards the state government for bringing them to their native state from Manipur.
It may be recalled here that Tripura government led by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday spoke to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and requested for special aircraft arrangements. In that context, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the decision to operate an additional commercial flight from Imphal to Agartala.
