Agartala Flood Mitigation project wins 1st prize in IAS training course
Kiran Gitte, an IAS officer of 2005 Batch of Tripura cadre attended the Mid-Career training programme in Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie held during the period June 18 to July 7, 2024. There were 83 IAS officers of 23 Cadre States ranging from 2000 batch to 2009 batch.
As a part of training course, every IAS officer is required to submit a case study to the LBSNAA during joining of the training. Kiran Gitte has submitted case study on Flood Mitigation Measures in Agartala City based on his work as Secretary Urban Development and Chairman, Agartala Smart City between 2019 - 2022.
The project was aimed at mitigating the problem of severe water logging during the rainy season. Over the period of 3 years, various initiatives like setting up of drainage pumps, diesel operated pumps, underground pipelines and Electric Supply, mechanized cleaning of drains, construction of new drains, sluice gates and 24 x 7 real time monitoring of flood control measures through Integrated Command and Control Centre of Agartala Smart City. As a result the average water logging time has been reduced from 2 – 3 days to less than 1 hour even after extremely heavy rain up to 150 mm. This case study has been awarded first prize among the 83 case studies submitted during the training course at LBSNAA at Mussoorie. Sriram Taranikanti, director of LBSNAA, Mussoorie presented the first prize to Kiran Gitte during the programme.
