The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has come up with a massive cleaning and decoration drive before the ensuing festivities of Durga Puja and has taken different pro-people measures for smooth and illuminated celebration of the festivities.

Giving details of the pre-puja preparations, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder on Wednesday said that for garbage cleaning along with maintenance of other basic amenities across Agartala during festival time, AMC has started massive cleaning works across the city and many prominent roads of the city will be illuminated with tricolor lights.

Highlighting the measures taken by Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) for beatification, cleanliness and improvement of other civic amenities during Puja days, Mayor Dipak Majumder said that a package of Rs. 5 crore will be utilized for beatification and many important roads of the city will be illuminated. Majumder said that AMC has also sanctioned Rs. 16 lakh for each 51 wards of AMC for pre-puja maintenance works.

He said that massive arrangements have been made at Dashamighat for immersion of the Goddess and all immersion to be completed by midnight. This is for the first time, AMC has taken initiatives and will organize the rituals for immersion and AMC workers will perform the traditional music during immersion at Dashamighat.

He said that for greater immersion facilities, AMC has cleared park area near the Dashamighat and they will deploy sufficient manpower to facilitate the immersion of Goddess at the easiest way and will station a number of cranes and other machines.

He said that AMC has also prepared a detailed plan for smooth celebration of festivities and hoped that this time people of the state as well as devotees from different areas will witness a hassle puja celebration across Agartala like last year.

He said that different kind of vehicles and earth movers will be pressed into action for cleaning of garbage and debris, laying in different nook and corners of the city, said Mayor adding that before the auspicious day of ‘Mahalaya’, the AMC workers would start their cleaning operation in shifts across the city and will avoid cleaning drive during busiest day hours and this year all clubs of the city will give a permanent dustbin.

He said that several teams will be formed under the leadership of AMC councilors and government authorities to finalize all pre-puja preparation works across the city and special measures would be taken for immersion processions and immersion of Goddess at ‘Dashamighat’ and other seven immersion spots of the city and AMC would repair and will made necessary constructions if needed, said Mayor.

Mayor also said that AMC will give awards to community puja organizers based on their celebration of puja by maintaining the environment and its protection.

The Mayor urged the capital city residents to maintain the cleanliness of the city and to cooperate with AMC. He also requested the people of the city to litter garbage in their respective places or in bins to maintain the hygienic environment of the city.
