Lynching a car driver inside Kailashahar tea garden, two arrested

Two suspected accused persons involved in the lynching of a Maruti car driver after a simple road mishap inside Kalishahan tea garden under Kailashahar police station of Unakoti district were arrested on Thursday.
Giving details, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kailashahar police station, Sukanta Sen Choudhury said that two individuals have been arrested in connection with the brutal lynching and murder of a car driver at the Kalishasan tea garden located in the Rangrung Gram Panchayat area .
It may be recalled here that on Tuesday (June 3rd) afternoon, a reckless Wagner car dashed a tea garden worker Logen Orang in the Kalishasan tea garden. The car then fell into a drain and became immobile. The driver, Pradip Das, along with passengers Nirmal Das and Dipen Debnath, fled into the tea garden after villagers chased them. While, Dipen Debnath managed to escape, an enraged group of villagers caught hold of driver Pradip Das inside the tea garden and lynched him to death. They also set fire to the car.
Later, police from Kailashahar station recovered the body of Pradip Das from the tea garden and began legal proceedings. Nirmal Das, who was in the car, came out of the tea garden jungle and surrendered to the police. On Wednesday, June 4th, an autopsy of the deceased driver was conducted at the Unakoti District Hospital, and the body was handed over to the family.
Police said that on June 3rd night, the elder brother of the deceased driver, Pradip Das, filed a written complaint at the Kailashahar police station. Following this, a case was registered, and the investigation began. As part of the investigation, police brought in the manager of the Kalishasan tea garden, the head of the Rangrung Gram Panchayat, some local social workers, and several tea garden workers for questioning at the police station.
This action sparked resentment among all the tea garden workers in Kalishasan. The interrogation of workers led to misunderstandings between them and the management. Upon receiving this information, OC Sukanta Sen Choudhury, accompanied by a large police and TSR (Tripura State Rifles), held a meeting with all the workers at the tea garden on Thursday.
During the meeting local labor leaders and former vice-chairman of Chandipur Panchayat Samiti, Sandeep Kormi, and the tea garden manager were present.
While, Sukanta Sen Choudhury stated that if anyone had witnessed the lynching incident or if those involved should voluntarily confessed to the police, the matter could be resolved quickly. Otherwise, the police would continue to bring in anyone from the tea garden for questioning in the interest of the investigation.
He added that two tea garden workers identified as Samarjit Goala and Premjit Goala were arrested in connection with the murder of Pradip Das. Both were produced in Kailashahar court on Thursday and more people involved in the lynching incident will be arrested soon.
