Bakri Eid celebrate peacefully across Tripura with prayers, sacrifice

Tripura along with other parts of the country celebrated the Bakri Eid or Eid al-Adha in a peaceful manner as pious Muslims celebrated the day and gathered in front different mosques all over the state and offered prayers. So far, no untoward incident was reported from any parts of the state, barring one stray incident over slaughtering of cow.

The day began with special congregational prayers held at mosques and Eidgahs in cities and towns nationwide, as people gathered in large numbers to mark the sacred festival.

In Agartala Muslims from different parts of the city gathered in the Gedu Mia mosque to offer morning prayers on the occasion of Eid- al-Adha on Saturday.

The Eid prayers started around 8.30 a.m. at Gedu Mia mosque in Agartala when the Imam of the mosque, Maulana Abdul Rehaman, read out the prayer. Eid-al-Adha is one of the most celebrated Muslim festivals of the world. Muslims hugged one another and exchanged greetings of peace and love to spread in the society irrespective of religion.

The BSF and the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) exchanged greetings, flowers and sweets on the occasion of Eid in front of different check posts and other bordering points of both nations.

Senior BSF and BGB officials accompanied jawans greeted each other Saturday at many places of the border.

Meanwhile, a large number of Muslims also assembled in mosques and Eidgahs to offer special prayers in different subdivisions of the state including in Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Udaipur and Sonamura and celebrated the day by exchanging greetings.

Large congregations also offered prayers at Shivnagar, Shantipara, Gulchakkar, Aralia areas of Agartala on Saturday morning.

It is the festival of sacrifice celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son to keep his word to God.

"Eid al-Adha is also known as Qurbani Eid in which the Muslim sacrifices an animal to acquire the Almighty's grace. But this festival is not just about sacrificing an animal. It is a festival with a message to sacrifice our ego, pride, give up thoughts of hatred and all other bad habits," said a cleric of the mosque.

Meanwhile, tension erupted in the Gomati Para area of Udaipur subdivision after a cow was slaughtered in public, violating government directives!

As soon as the news broke, local residents began reacting strongly, and the entire area heated up within moments.

In order to bring the situation under control, the District Superintendent of Police (SP), Additional Superintendent of Police, Subdivisional Police Officer, along with a large contingent of police and TSR (Tripura State Rifles) forces, rushed to the spot.

Due to the swift action of the police, no clashes or untoward incidents occurred, but panic spread across the area. As per administrative orders, the cow’s carcass was buried underground.
