Bangladeshi smugglers powered with BGB attacked BSF in Kailashahar border
All of a sudden provocation by a group of Bangladeshi smugglers and villagers along with Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has tried to stop BSF personnel from their duties to clear the smuggle goods from Indian side to Bangladesh at Magruli village of Kailashahar under Unakoti district of Tripura Tuesday.
At a time, Bangladeshi smugglers powered by BGB jawans had also attacked on duty BSF jawans with sharp cutting weapons and had also tried to snatch firearms from BSF jawans, which has escalated the growing tension among two border guards in Magruli border.
Sources said that on Tuesday afternoon near the international border pillar number-47 at Magruli village of Kailashahar under Unakoti district, a group of Bangladeshi smugglers tried to smuggle ‘Bidi’ (Tobacco) towards their country. But, on duty BSF jawans tried to resist them and they continued their smuggling.
Later, another group of Bangladeshi smugglers joined the attack on BSF powered by BGB and they gheraoed two BSF jawans and tried to snatch their service weapons. Smugglers also started abusing BSF jawans with racial slurs.
Within a few minutes, reinforcements rushed to the spot and BSF jawans chased Bangladeshi smugglers and to protect smugglers, a large group of Bangladeshi villagers had also arrived at the spot and attacked BSF. When BSF jawans in large numbers resisted the attack, they escaped from the spot.
BSF jawans passionately tried to control the situation to maintain peace on the border.
Whiel, giving details of the incident, a top BSF official said that “the actions of the BSF during the incident was restrained and in accordance with the mandate to uphold border security. The situation escalated due the aggression from individuals armed with sticks and sharpened weapons . Despite provocation, the BSF personnel exercised utmost restraint and used non lethal ammunition only when there was imminent danger to government property and life.”
The BSF remains resolute in its mission to ensure the safety and security on the border belt in the state of Tripura, said the official, who does not want to mention his name and added that force will not tolerate such kind hooliganism in international border and BSF remains resolute in its mission to ensure the safety and security on the border belt in the state of Tripura.
It may be recalled here that despite tight security in entire stretch of Indo-Bangla border after unrest in Bangladeshi, smugglers with help of a section of BGB are trying to create hindrance in border peace and provocate for smuggling and other anti-Indian activities including infiltration of Bangladeshi and Rohingyas.
The caretaker government in Bangladesh, which is suffering from inner-collision to control the internal law and order situation and unable to control the deplorable and deteriorating economic conditions, has also suffering from fear-psychosis, which has reflected over deployment of their Army in some sensitive border areas along with Tripura in the mid part of December last.
After military's long boot print in Bangladesh and Sheikh Hasina's ouster, Bangladeshi Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus lead the interim government of 17 people, many strident opponents of ousted premier Sheikh Hasina has instigated anti-India movements across their country and started large-scale violence and attacks on minority communities in their country.
The hyper-active movements of the army were noticed in Chittagong sector of Bangladesh and Ramgarh area, bordering Tripura in mid December and they deployed the army in some pockets in the Indo-Bangla border by replacing Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) jawans.
Earlier, in the border areas of Khowai district, BGB was also removed and coordination forces of Bangladesh have been deployed in Ballaber areas of Bangladesh near Khowai border.
Intelligence sources also confirmed the presence of coordination forces of Bangladesh in bordering areas and keeping in view of their presence, BSF have intensified their surveillance and joint patrolling along with state police and TSR have also started.
Recent developments along the India-Bangladesh border near Tripura have heightened security concerns. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) organized a long march from Dhaka to Agartala, protesting an incident at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, where the Bangladeshi flag was allegedly desecrated during demonstrations against reported atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh.
In response, Tripura authorities have intensified security measures along the border. The Border Security Force (BSF) has increased patrolling, and additional forces, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Rifles, have been deployed at key entry points such as the Akhaura Integrated Check Post.
