BSF foils drug smuggling bid at Sonamura border, woman arrested with 2,000 Yaba tablets

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Thursday thwarted another drug smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Sonamura sub-division of Sepahijala district.
Sources said that based on secret information BSF jawans of the 49th Battalion arrested a woman identified as Rabia Khatun (32) from Gate No. 178, Boxanagar Paschimpara under Sepahijala district and recovered 2,000 Yaba tablets under her possession.
BSF sources said the consignment belonged to a local smuggler, identified as Monir Hossain, a resident of Madhya Boxanagar, who has allegedly been involved in cross-border drug trafficking for a long period.
Later BSF handed over woman smuggler Rabia to Kalamchowra police station for further investigation.
Police sources said that interrogation is going to the arrested woman smuggler and will produce her before a local court under a specific case of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act with police remand appeal for further interrogation to get details of their smuggling network.
Police sources added that in recent times smugglers adopted new tactics and for delivery of their contraband consignments are using women peddlers for cross-border movements.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the network, and further arrests are likely based on the disclosures of the detained woman.
