A serious allegation of harassment has surfaced at the Manughat RD Block of Dhalai district in connection with the upcoming Village Council elections.
Sources said that one Purnima Das, a candidate of the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) from Ward No. 4 of the Chailengta Village Council, has alleged that she was harassed while going to the Manughat RD Block to submit her nomination papers.
According to the complaint, Purnima Das visited the Manughat RD Block on September 5 to file her nomination as a Tipra Motha Party candidate. She alleged that the a poll official on duty, Rajesh Deb, collected her mobile phone number from her nomination papers and subsequently sent her an SMS.
Rajesh Deb is also reportedly working as a GT teacher at Manughat School.
After informing her husband, Rajib Sarkar, about the incident, the matter was brought to the attention of the administration.
On Monday morning, a written complaint was reportedly sent via WhatsApp to the District Magistrate of Dhalai. The complaint was also submitted to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)of Chailengta.
In addition, a written complaint was reportedly lodged with Manu Block Development Officer (BDO) Bijit Debbarma. A police case has also allegedly been filed against the concerned individual at the local police station.
Following the allegations, the concerned RO officer has reportedly been served a show-cause notice.
The allegations have created concern in both political and administrative circles. However, the veracity of the allegations and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to become clear only after a proper investigation.
With a police case reportedly pending against the concerned individual, attention is now focused on the outcome of the administrative inquiry and the subsequent legal proceedings.
