Congress’ mega road show: LS poll is to protect democracy, constitution, says Priyanka Gandhi
Attending a mega road show by opposition INDIA Bloc, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday said that the ensuing Lok Sabha elections are to protect democracy and the Indian constitution and people of the country have to protect their spirit of the constitution.
After participating in over 15-km long mega road show from the Agartala airport to various thoroughfares of the capital city, when her roadshow arrived at Surya Chowmuhani area of the city, the Congress leader said that there is tremendous enthusiasm among the people about the five justices promised by the Congress and same enthusiasm are among the people of Tripura.
The road show organized in support of the opposition INDIA Bloc candidates of two Lok Sabha constituencies, 1-West Tripura and 2-East Tripura and Priyanka Gandhi was accompanied by Congress candidate for West Tripura PC, Ashish Kumar Saha, 7-Ramnagar CPI(M) candidate Ratan Das, 3 Congress MLAs Birajit Sinha, Gopay Roy , Sudip Roy Barman, CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury, Mrs Gandhi said that if the Congress comes to power at the Center , they would provide 30 lakh jobs, minimum support prices to farmers, Rs 1 lakh annually to women, land to the landless and free education to children till 12th standard.
Seeing the enthusiasm and excitement in thousands of Congress and CPI(M) supporters, who have greeted her from both sides of the road from the airport to the heart of Agartala city, Gandhi said that the support of the people reflected that the people of Tripura ensure the victory of INDIA Bloc candidates.
As the Congress leader passed by the huge number of crowds, besides jubilant Congress and CPI(M) supporters, thousands of men, women and youths cheered amidst thundering slogans of 'Priyanka Gandhi kaisa hain, Indira Gandhi Jaisa Hain', 'Priyanka Gandhi aage Badho, hum tumhare saath hain' ‘Modi hatao desh bacho’etc.
She said that INDIA bBoc candidates are getting tremendous support from across the country and there is no power to prevent their victories.
While speaking in the road show, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said Priyanka Gandhi came to Tripura to spread the message of struggle for saving democracy and citizen rights would only be saved at the hands of Congress and the INDIA alliance.
After participating in the road show from the airport to Post Office-Chowmuhani, Priyanka Gandhi changed her vehicle and boarded in a small car by flying her hands from the hood of the car, her convoy passed through HGB Road of the city and rushed for the airport. Later, in the evening, she flew back to New Delhi. Gandhi, who came to Tripura from Assam where she took part in a similar road show in support of party candidate Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat district, later in the evening, flew back to Delhi.
State Congress President Saha as a nominee of the INDIA bloc contesting in the Tripura West Lok Sabha seat against former Chief Minister and BJP candidate Biplab Kumar Deb.
Polling will be held in the Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency on the first phase of voting on April 19.
