CPI (M), Congress unhappy as no business in Assembly on Sep 22 for PM visit

The two days long eighth session of the 13th Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday begins on a peaceful note and the daylong session has also passed off without any ruckus and walkout by opposition benches and businesses of the day smoothly completed.
But, during discussion on question-hou, the MLAs from opposition CPI(M) and Congress expressed their dismay as no business was listed in the Assembly for September 22 because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Udaipur in Gomati district on that day to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple.
While, speaking over the issue, senior Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman claimed that adequate days are not generally available to discuss issues related to public interest and this time too, there will be no House (business) on Monday, even though it is a working day.
He said that people of the state know the reason that the Prime Minister is coming to inaugurate the redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple on that day. He claimed that the Prime Minister’s visit is more important than the people’s interests and that the Prime Minister is the top priority for the ruling party.
He requested the leader of the House and the treasury bench to allow the function of the House on Monday (September 22) as usual.
Supporting Roy Barman’s statement, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Jitendra Chaudhury said that no business schedules of the House on Monday because of the Prime Minister’s visit are not a good message to the people of the state.
He said that it is normal that the Prime Minister will come and the ministers and MLAs will also visit Udaipur to join the programme, the BAC can reschedule the business of the House as per the situation.
Meanwhile, replying over objections of opposition MLAs, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ratan Lal Nath said Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu had convened the Assembly session much before the Prime Minister Office (PMO) confirmed the Prime Minister’s visit to the state for inauguration of redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple.
He added that business of the House was passed unanimously at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting. Nath also assured the opposition bench that the next assembly session will be longer than the current one, but often MLAs get tired in a five-day session.
