Reacting massive of victory of NDA alliance partners in the Village Committee (VC) elections of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), BJP state president Abhishek Debroy asserted that the CPI(M) and Congress would have no political presence in the tribal areas, expressing confidence of the country wise development led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has reflected once again in hilly state of Tripura by ensuring massive mandate by the BJP-led NDA in the VC polls.
After counting for elections to 587 Village Committees, ruling BJP’s tribal-based ally Tipra Motha Party (TMP) continued to dominate Tripura’s tribal areas, securing 74.61 per cent of the 4,594 seats in the Village Committees. As per the results for all 4,594 seats in 587 Village Committees and of the total 4,594 seats in 587 Village Committees, TMP won 3,428 seats (74.61 per cent), while the BJP bagged 859 seats (18.70 per cent). Their other tribal-based ally, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT), secured 33 seats (0.72 per cent).
The opposition CPI (M) bagged 87 seats (1.89 per cent), the Congress secured 14 seats (0.30 per cent), while Independents won 173 seats (3.77 per cent).
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, Debroy claimed that voters in the tribal areas had experienced years of "exploitation, oppression and misrule" under successive Left governments, particularly during the CPI(M)'s rule. He also referred to the influence of the Ganamukti Parishad, the CPI(M)'s tribal wing, during that period.
"I had said earlier that our opponents, the Marxist party and Congress, will have no existence in the hills," Debroy said.
He alleged that the people of the hill areas had faced serious challenges, including extremism, during the Left regime and asserted that they would not support the CPI (M) again.
Expressing confidence over the outcome, Debroy claimed that the CPI (M) failed to win two digits of Village Committees.
"This is my opinion and my assessment based on my political experience," he said, adding that the BJP-IPFT-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a substantial majority of seats in the elections.
Describing the Village Committee polls as a key political milestone ahead of the 2028 Tripura Assembly elections, Debroy said the results would reflect the public's confidence in the BJP-led government and its development agenda.
He appealed to the electorate to continue supporting the NDA, expressing confidence that the alliance would return to power in the 2028 Assembly elections with a decisive mandate.
