Doctors must lead way in shaping a healthier future: CM
Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Saturday emphasized the role of doctors in fulfilling their social responsibilities by supporting government initiatives aimed at protecting children’s health and shaping a better future generation.
“Pediatricians play a vital role in safeguarding children’s health. It is expected that they will take on social responsibility in implementing various government programs for the well-being of children and significantly contribute to developing a strong future generation,” said Dr Saha while addressing the 30th Annual State Conference of TRIPEDICON at the IMA House in Agartala.
At the event, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics Tripura State Branch honored Dr. Alekhya Dasgupta, a senior physician and pediatrician, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, Dr. Himani Debnath, who secured the highest marks in Pediatrics in the 2024 MBBS examination, was also felicitated.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significant improvements in the state’s health system.
“The government is undertaking various initiatives to protect children’s health and build a healthy society. Pediatricians are committed to enhancing the physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being of children, and their role in fostering these aspects is invaluable,” he stated.
Dr Saha, who also serves as the Health Minister of Tripura, mentioned the launch of the statewide School Health Mission as a pilot project in 125 Vidya Jyoti schools. This program aims to create a healthy school environment by promoting awareness of health issues among students.
He explained that the initiative will focus on six key pillars, with the primary objective of fostering a health-conscious environment within schools.
The event was attended by Director of Health, Professor Dr. Sanjib Kumar Debbarma, Organizing Chairperson Dr. Mrinal Das, President of the Tripura State Branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics Dr. Srivas Das, Additional Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Welfare Rajib Dutta, and several other dignitaries.
