In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and the Border Security Force (BSF) jointly seized Yaba tablets and pharmaceutical drugs worth over ₹8 crore in Tripura on Friday.

Acting on specific intelligence provided by DRI Agartala regarding the movement of a large consignment of Yaba tablets from Agartala to Bishramganj via NH-08, a joint operation was launched early in the morning. A Mobile Check Post (MCP) was set up in front of Gate No. 01 of the BSF Sector Headquarters at Gokulnagar.

According to BSF sources, during the checking, a Suzuki Eeco van (registration number TR 01 CH 0353) attempted to evade the MCP and fled toward Udaipur through the Bishalgarh Bypass Road. The joint team immediately initiated a pursuit.

After an hour-long search, the vehicle was found abandoned near Kalkaliya High School. The area was cordoned off, and a thorough inspection of the van led to the recovery of ten packets of Yaba tablets weighing approximately 10 kg, valued at nearly Rs 8 crore.

Officials also seized three cartons of Etaddol 100/Tapentadol 100 mg tablets containing around 750 boxes (each with 100 tablets), valued at Rs 20,32,500. Additionally, Indian currency amounting to Rs 25,400 and the Suzuki Eeco van worth Rs 1,50,000 were seized. The total value of the seizure stands at Rs 8,21,78,650.

In a separate operation in Sonamura, BSF personnel also seized 1 kg of Yaba based on specific intelligence inputs.

The seized contraband and the vehicle have been handed over to DRI Agartala for further legal action.

Officials said the operation highlights the BSF’s ongoing commitment to combating narcotics trafficking along the Indo–Bangladesh border and showcases strong inter-agency cooperation between BSF and DRI in tackling cross-border smuggling and organized drug networks.
