Drug rehabilitation centers in every constituency, all party committee to tackle abuses, demanded Animesh
The opposition leader and Tipra-Motha MLA Animesh Debbarma on Sunday demanded stringent and concrete steps against drug menaces and drug rehabilitation centers in every assembly constituency of the state.
Addressing a press conference at his office at Tripura Legislative assembly complex on Sunday afternoon, Animesh Debbarma through scathing guns over the state government on many issues directly related to people of the state has called for the establishment of drug rehabilitation centers in every assembly constituency of the state .
He alleged that the state government has declared ‘Nesha Mukt Tripura’ only in speeches, but in reality the drug abusers has been increasing day by day increasing with rising number of drug peddlers, abused youths and resulting in HIV cases are also increasing day by day in Tripura.
While ministers make promises of a drug-free Tripura, they have failed to take concrete steps to make it a reality. The government should have formed a committee comprising members from all political parties and established drug rehabilitation centers in every assembly constituency. Without proper arrangements, such claims remain empty, and there's a risk of an entire generation being affected by the growing drug menaces.
He also proposed the formation of an all-party committee to tackle the state's growing drug abuses in every constituency.
Criticizing the state government over drug related issues, Debbarma accused it of failing to take effective measures to combat the drug menace in Tripura. Debbarma demanded the establishment of drug rehabilitation centers in every assembly constituency and proposed the formation of a committee comprising both ruling and opposition party MLAs to address the issue.
Debbarma also criticized the state's Power department for the sudden hike in power tariff and claimed that services of the Power department are questionable as load shedding is on the rise. Despite increasing and developing the services for the people, the department abruptly hiked the power tariff and gave a bonanza for suffering. The power department should provide a clear explanation to the public regarding the reasons behind the tariff hike. In other states, power or water services are provided free of cost, said Debbarma.
Debbarma has also expressed his deep concern over the hike of property taxes in Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and forcefully eviction drive over hawkers just before the festival of Durga Puja.
