Editors, journalists met CM, demands removal of deputy speaker
A delegation of editors and journalists on Monday evening met the Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha and raised their voice against Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly, Ram Prasad Paul, who had recently made rough, indecent, and unconstitutional remarks about journalists and the media, which he has published widely.
The delegation during their meeting with Chief Minister raised issue of unethical behavior of Deputy Speaker and demanded his removal from the prestigious post of deputy speaker, who by using the esteemed position of Deputy Speaker has released a video message aimed at spreading negative perceptions about journalists among the public, which was then widely circulated and made viral by his beneficiaries.
During the discussion, the journalist representatives pointed out how Mr Paul deliberately made derogatory comments about journalists with malicious intent.
In protest against this unethical conduct by Mr. Paul, a delegation of editors and journalists has also informed the Chief Minister of the present situation. Editors and journalists believe that Mr. Paul’s negative stance is a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of journalists and create public distrust. They also informed the Chief Minister about how Mr. Paul, while holding the prestigious post of Deputy Speaker, has engaged in activities that have brought disgrace to the state and the government.
The journalist delegation has demanded Mr. Paul’s removal from the position of Deputy Speaker. The Chief Minister has assured them that the matter will be thoroughly examined.
Senior editors and journalists present during the meeting with the Chief Minister included Subal Kumar Dey, Sanjay Paul, Sanit Debroy, Dibakar Debnath, Pranab Sarkar, Dr. Bishwendu Bhattacharjee, Subrata Ghosh, Prateek Mahalanobis, Sourajit Pal, Achintya Bhuiya, Manish Acharya, Abhijit Ghosh, Prasenjit Bhattacharjee, Ranjit Debbarma, among others.
