Govt plans to deploy Special Executives as tourist police: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday announced that the state government is planning the deployment of special executives as tourist police in all the tourist spots and informed that land has already been identified for the Ophthalmology Institute in Agartala city.
Dr Saha said this after inaugurating and laying foundation stones of various projects worth Rs 210 crore under Amarpur sub-division in Gomati District on Tuesday.
“We must give a message to people that Tripura is a peaceful place. Insurgency was there, but the NLFT and ATTF cadres surrendered and now Tripura is free from insurgency. Our law and order has significantly improved. We have seen the 35 years of rule of CPIM and Congress. They have never thought of developing tourism while PM Modi is always saying Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and making women self-reliant. We are working keeping tourism in front. We have so many tourist spots like Unakoti, Ujjayanta Palace, Rudrasagar and etc. We are spending a lot of money for the development of tourist spots. We must come together to promote our tourism. Around Rs 67 crore will be spent here in Chabimura, which will be completed in proper time,” said Dr Saha.
He said that earlier governments used the Janajati people for vote bank politics, and now we are working for their development.
“Now they are happy. We have a plan to introduce tourist police for the tourists and soon we are preparing special executives and will see whether we can deploy them there or not. People want peace and they don’t want disturbance,” said Dr Saha.
Later, Dr Saha said in Amarpur Sub-division, among three Assembly Constituencies, a total of Rs 210 crore worth of projects were inaugurated and foundation stones laid.
“Oppositions will say there is no development. But we don’t talk without development. On February 12 of this year, we laid foundation stones of Motor Stands in Jolaibari, Melaghar, District Transport Office in Teliamura, Integrated Parking Complex in Khowai. On March 1st, we inaugurated and laid foundation stones worth Rs 45 crore, on March 03 we inaugurated and laid foundation stones of Rs 144 crore in Unakoti district, and many other projects were done in the last two months across the state. We are also working to develop the district hospitals, and for that we are opening trauma care centres in all the district hospitals. Our government is working for the overall health sector development. In the last 35 years, the health department has never seen such huge development. We have successfully done kidney transplantation and more will be done in coming days. We have directed to increase the seat numbers of GB Pant. We are working for setting up a medical hub,” he said.
The Chief Minister further informed that the state government is working to open a tertiary Eye Hospital and for that, land has also been identified in Agartala for a 100-bedded facility.
“An Ophthalmology Regional Institute will be set up so that people don’t need to go outside of the state,” he added.
On this day the events were attended by Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, East Tripura MP Kriti Debbarma, Gomati District Sabhadhipati Debal Debroy, MLA Ranjit Das, MLA Pathan Lal Jamatia, MLA Sanjay Manik Tripura, TTAADC Executive Member Dolly Reang, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma, and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak.
