Hemant Verma assumes office as chairman of Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission

The Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC) has announced the appointment of Engineer Hemant Verma as its new Chairman and on Wednesday, he formally assumed office at Agartala.
With over 37 years of experience in the power sector, Verma has served in leadership roles at the Central Electricity Authority, Delhi Vidyut Board, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd., and most recently as Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission (CSERC), where he completed a four-and-a-half-year term.
His career has been marked by significant contributions in the areas of AT &C loss reduction, renewable energy integration, demand-side management, and consumer-centric digital services. In his first address as Chairman, Verma expressed gratitude to the government of Tripura for reposing faith in him and reaffirmed his commitment to the people of the state. He emphasized three key priorities for his tenure, protecting consumer interest through transparency, fairness, and strong grievance redressal mechanisms, ensuring reliable and affordable supply of electricity in partnership with utilities, government, and stakeholders and promoting sustainable development by encouraging renewable energy, energy efficiency, and innovative practices in alignment with national goals.
Speaking on immediate priorities, he said, “My first priority is to ensure reliable, quality, and affordable electricity to consumers. At the same time, I will work on strengthening the financial health of utilities so that both consumers and service providers’ benefit.”
With his vast knowledge and proven track record, Verma’s leadership is expected to further strengthen Tripura’s power sector reforms, enhance consumer services, and ensure the balanced growth of the state’s electricity system. Reiterating his dedication, Verma in Bengali said: “Tripura’r jônno ebong Tripura’r manusher samriddhir jônno, ami shôrboda nishthabaan thakbo.” (For Tripura and for the welfare of its people, I will always remain dedicated.)
