Intermittent rain on Sunday evening across Agartala brings respite from scorching heat
After continuous witnessing the scorching heat with dry spell in the Norwester season, specially hot and humid weather condition for last 22 days, which has made life miserable across Agartala, the capital city on Sunday evening get respite from scorching heat after intermittent rain, thunderstorm and lightning struck the city.
Since past one week, the Weather department had announcements a hope of respite and predicted heavy rainfall in most of the districts of Tripura including in the capital city, but, the scorching heat and humid weather made life miserable across the city and finally, the city dwellers get a respite from scorching heat on Sunday evening.
The intermittent rains with thunder showers in many parts of Tripura with heavy to very heavy rainfall at few places also brought some respite from scorching heat.
The MET department said that the rain and heavy to moderate thunderstorms may occur in more areas of Tripura during the next 24 hours. The Norwester rains since evening have further cooled the air in the state capital with maximum temperatures decreasing to 29.8 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature recorded at 24.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday evening. Though the humidity level at maximum 95 % and minimum at 89 % was recorded at the state capital.
IMD in its weather prediction for next day said thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over North, Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai and West districts and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated placed over the rest of the districts of Tripura and maximum temperatures rising to 34.0 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature would be at 24.0 degrees Celsius.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) sources said that the cloudy weather and light rain may provide some relief from the heat in Tripura on Monday and Tuesday also.
The day temperatures decrease by a few notches at 35.6 degrees Celsius in Agartala, which is higher than normal temperature at this time of the year. Similarly, other parts of the state also witnessed scorching heat during the past fortnight. The city remained hottest on Sunday with relative humidity at about 95 percent and recorded a minimum temperature of 24.1 degrees Celsius with minimum departure of plus 1.5 degrees Celsius.
