Justice Siddharth Mridul sworn in as Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur
Imphal: Chief Justice designate of the High Court of Manipur, Justice Siddharth Mridul was sworn in as the seventh Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur. Justice Siddharth Mridul of Delhi High Court was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur by the President of India on 16th October, 2023.
Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Friday, administered the oath of office to Justice Siddharth Mridul in the swearing-in ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th. Satyabrata Singh, cabinet ministers, MP Rajya Sabha Sanajaoba Leishemba, MLAs, Judges of Manipur High Court and subordinate courts, top civil and police officers attended the swearing in ceremony.
After the swearing-in ceremony, talking to the media, Chief Justice Siddharth said, he is looking forward to a productive tenure in office. He also said that he took stock of the situation and altogether 3,335 cases have been pending in Manipur High Court. He also assured that he will look into those pending cases and will try to discharge them at the earliest possible time.
“Pendency is not a thing one has to worry about, everybody will get a patient hearing and early disposal”, the Chief Justice said. In Manipur, the Chief Justice with a smile said “I feel wonderful from what I have seen since I arrived. It's a quiet place and there is sea change in terms of air quality and environment”.
Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh speaking to media after the swearing in ceremony said that the government will not compromise any action taken up against the state and the nation. “Such things will be dealt constitutionally”, he added.
Regarding reports on the state government not giving power to state forces to act in difficult situations in hill areas, the Manipur CM said the reports are not true. From the beginning of the conflict the state force along with central forces were the first to respond, many personnel of state police and central forces have also lost their lives in line of duty, he added.
Biren while expressing his happiness on Justice Siddharth Mridul becoming the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, he said “the new Chief Justice will definitely help in bringing peace and normalcy back in the state”.
After swearing-in, the Chief Justice met with the Governor at Raj Bhavan and discussed the ongoing situation in Manipur. Governor Anusuiya informed him about the efforts being made towards bringing back peace and normalcy by the State and Central governments so that the two communities can live together as before.
