Left students, youths urge NHM to take step against drug menaces
With clarion calls to the state administration to protect youths and next generation of the state, four Left students and Youth organization on Monday submitted a deputation before the Mission Director (MD) of National Health Mission (NHM).
After their deputation to MD of NHM, Rajib Datta, DFFY’s state secretary Nabarun Deb said that in the last few years Tripura is suffering from a terrible disease. The entire state is suffering from the menaces of drugs , but unfortunately drug addicted youths when going to drug addiction treatment centers, they are virtually fallen in the death trap.
In their deputation, the Left youths said that the number of domestic and foreign liquor shops is increasing every day under the license given by the government. In every lane of the state, various types of drugs are being sold. Even in front of schools various types of drugs are being sold. Young boys and girls are also affected by it and there is no strict action by the administration against it.
“We demand that the administration take strict action against addiction. Besides, to take public awareness programs on a large scale under the initiative of National Health Mission. In the last few years, with the massive increase in the number of drug addicts, drug rehabilitation centers are increasing in the state like a frog umbrella,” said Nabarun Deb.
He alleged that a loot trade is going on in the name of drug rehabilitation centers and huge amounts of money is being collected from the families of the victims who come to get rid of addiction.
On the contrary, there is unspeakable mental and physical torture and many people under treatment at Nesha Mukti Kendra have died due to unspeakable mental and physical attacks, said Deb.
They demanded that every Nesha Mutti Kendra should be strictly monitored by the administration and a team of high officials should conduct random observation every week.
The names, phone numbers of any doctors, psychiatrists, counselors, nurses, midwives who are involved in any drug addiction treatment center must be given to the family of the victim who comes to the drug rehab center, said DYFI leaders.
They also demanded before the MD of NHM that the list of 'Integrated Rehabilitation Centers for Addicts' or appropriate de-addiction centers in Tripura should be published officially with the necessary permission from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of the Central Government.
