Looting gold jewelleries from Dharmanagar: Gang of thieves arrested from a city hotel
After a viral CCTV footage, in which a group of women thieves had stolen two gold bracelets from a jewellery shop in Dharmanagar, the West Agartala police on Saturday arrested a gang of eight thieves including five women from Kolkata.
Police sources said that a group of eight persons including five women from Barasat area of Kolkata arrived at Dharmanagar town on Friday through their private Bolero jeep and boarded in a Kumarghat based hotel.
But, among them five women went to Rajan jewellery shop and started choosing gold jewelleries like ordinary customers. When the salesmen of the shop showed different kinds of jewelleries, two of the five women managed to steal two valuable gold bracelets and escaped from the spot.
Later, the shop owner found the stolen incident recorded in the CCTV cameras and informed the incident to Dharmanagar police.
Police, immediately based on the CCTV footage, started investigation of the case and informed all police stations of the state.
Later, based on secret information and inputs from North Tripura district police, the police personnel from West Agartala police station detained the gang of 8 thieves from hotel ‘Palace Inn’ from the palace compound area of Agartala.
Police said that during interrogation, arrested five women revealed the incident and police have also recovered two gold bracelets under their possession.
Police added that on Saturday afternoon, all arrested thieves were handed over to Dharmanagar police station for further legal proceedings.
