Tension gripped the Bamutia area on Monday morning after the decomposed hanging body of a youth, who had been missing for the past 13 days, was recovered from a brick kiln under Lefunga police station of West Tripura district.
The deceased was identified as Chandan Sarkar (28), a resident of North Taltala under Sidhai police station.
Family sources said that Chandan had been missing for nearly two weeks, and they had lodged a missing diary with Sidhai police station soon after his disappearance.
Locals said the body was discovered after a foul smell spreading from the area drew attention. Police later recovered the decomposed hanging body from the brick kiln and identified the deceased.
The victim's family alleged that despite informing Sidhai police station about his disappearance and filing a missing complaint, no effective action was taken. They claimed that the body was eventually recovered only after 13 days.
Preliminary information suggests that family disputes may have been the reason behind the alleged suicide, although police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.
