Notorious thief arrested with gold jewelleries, cash from Amtali

In another successful operation, police on Saturday arrested a notorious thief and recovered large quantities of stolen gold ornaments, cash along with a mobile phone from Shivbari area of Amtali under West Tripura district.
Giving details, SDPO(Amtali) Paramita Pandey said that few days ago, one Ashimita Bhowmik of Amtalai market area lodged a complaint at Amtali police station that unknown thieves had raided at her house and looted all valuable gold jewelleries, cash and a mobile phone.
Based on the complaint, Amtali police station started an investigation and with help of scientific evidences, police Saturday managed to arrested a thief, identified as Jayanta Bhowmik from Shivbari area and recovered stolen gold jewelleries worth of Rs. 7 lakh, cash amount of Rs. 28,000 and a mobile phone under his possession.
She said that during preliminary interrogation, arrested thief confessed that he stole the gold jewelleries and cash amount from the house of Ashmita Bhowmik, when they were not present in their house few days.
SDPO added that the arrested thief would be produced before a local court with police remand appeal for further interrogation and to get details of his network and names of other associates involved in the stolen incident.
