Police Commemoration Day: Misinformation being spread over state's law and order situation, DGP
Tripura along with other parts of the country on Monday observed the Police Commemoration Day, whereas state police observed the day event at Arundhatinagar Police Grounds in Agartala after paying homage at the Martyrs Memorial and other security forces including BSF, CRPF and GRP have also observed the day with patriotic fervor.
During the observation of Commemoration Day, the DGP(Tripura) paid his heartfelt tributes to the brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Later, speaking with media persons, Tripura’s Director General of Police, Amitabh Ranjan asserted that the law and order situation in Tripura has improved but misinformation was being spread about it.
Ranjan said that "Misinformation is being spread about the law and order situation but the fact is the state has recorded a lesser number of crimes this year compared to the last 10 years. I would like to clear all doubts that be it any offence, crimes rates have drastically downed."
The DGP’s statement came amidst opposition parties’ criticism of the police over the death of a tribal youth after alleged custodial torture in the state and murder of a trader in the heart of city in presence of police forces and large number crowd during festival days.
Mentioning the peaceful completion of last Lok Sabha and Gram Panchayat elections, DGP said that Tripura howed that the state's law and order situation was normal and how peaceful elections can be conducted.
He said that senior police officials promptly respond to any law and order issues and added that whenever there has been a situation, senior officers have rushed to the site to control it, and additional forces have been deployed as necessary.
Hinting recently held two communal clashes in North Tripura district, DGP said that promptly state police acted after the clashes and controlled the situation to maintain peace among communities.
Ranjan highlighted the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, which he described as a testament to the effective law enforcement measures in place and said that people from all communities participated, demonstrating communal harmony.”
The DGP also assured that strong actions would be taken also against police personnel when they made mistakes while discharging their duties. “If anyone attempts to create unrest, we will take immediate action. Our honorable Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has given us a free hand to maintain law and order,” he added.
It may be recalled here that during two separate communal clashes held at Kadamtala and Pekucherra under North Tripura district, which claimed death of a civilian and government have also suspended internet, prohibitory order imposed, the SP of the district has also been closed.
Shops were vandalized following clashes over Durga Puja donations in Kadamtala. Subsequently, there were attempts to vandalize both a temple and a mosque in the same district.
