In a major step towards strengthening the power infrastructure in South Tripura, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday inaugurated two 132 kV sub-stations at Sabroom and Satchand areas of South Tripura district, aimed at ensuring a more reliable, uninterrupted and quality power supply to the region.

The two projects have been implemented through the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited with financial assistance from the government of India and the World Bank. Built at a combined cost of approximately Rs 113.92 crore, the sub-stations are expected to benefit a total of 37,548 electricity consumers in South Tripura.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the projects would significantly strengthen the power transmission and distribution infrastructure in the region, improve the quality and reliability of electricity supply, and facilitate better services for consumers.

The 132 kV Sabroom sub-station has been constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 66.19 crore. Work on the project began in March 2021. It includes a 132 kV sub-station and a two-storey control room building, along with a 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connecting Sabroom with the power network.

The sub-station has been equipped with two 31.5 MVA-capacity 132/33 kV transformers and two 10 MVA-capacity 33/11 kV transformers. The newly constructed 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connects the Sabroom sub-station with the Belonia and Satchand sub-stations.

According to the minister, the commissioning of the facility will strengthen the power supply infrastructure in Sabroom and adjoining areas, ensuring improved service quality and greater reliability.

A total of 21,398 electricity consumers are expected to benefit from the project. The beneficiary areas include Sabroom, Baishnabpur, Manughat, Harina, Bankul, the Integrated Check Post, Luthua and Rupaichhari, among other adjoining localities.

The 132 kV Satchand sub-station has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 47.83 crore, with work beginning in January 2021. The project was also implemented by the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited with financial assistance from the Government of India and the World Bank.

The facility includes a 132 kV sub-station and a two-storey control room building. A 132 kV transmission line has also been constructed to connect Satchand with the power infrastructure at Bogafa.

Like the Sabroom facility, the Satchand sub-station has two 31.5 MVA-capacity 132/33 kV transformers and two 10 MVA-capacity 33/11 kV transformers. The newly constructed 132 kV double-circuit transmission line connects the Satchand sub-station with the Bogafa and Sabroom sub-stations.

The minister said the commissioning of the Satchand sub-station would improve the reliability and quality of power supply in Satchand and surrounding areas, while also supporting the region’s overall development.

The project is expected to benefit 16,150 electricity consumers in Satchand, Manubazar, Shakbari, Magurchhara, Kalachhara, Bhurakhali, Sindukpathar, Rajibnagar and Srinagar, along with neighbouring localities.

The inauguration of the two sub-stations marks a significant addition to South Tripura’s power infrastructure, with the projects expected to improve transmission capacity and provide more dependable electricity services to thousands of households and other consumers.
