In a significant decision, the Tripura cabinet based on the directives of High Court of Tripura has announced to discontinue the requirement of the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRTC) for state government jobs. Instead, job aspirants will have to furnish proof that they studied for five consecutive years between Classes I and XII in any school in Tripura.

After the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury addressing a press conference at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon said that  the decision was taken following directions issued by the High Court of Tripura, while hearing a case related to the PRTC requirement.

He said that the Tripura Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 552 vacant posts across various state government departments.

The Minister said the recruitment process would be carried out through the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) and the Joint Recruitment Board of Tripura (JRBT), depending on the category of posts.

Of the approved vacancies, 310 posts are for Junior Engineers. Under Grade (A), recruitment will be made for 169 Civil, 8 Mechanical, and 18 Electrical posts, while Grade (B) includes 104 Civil, 5 Mechanical, and 6 Electrical posts. Candidates applying for these posts must possess a diploma in the relevant engineering discipline.

The Cabinet has also approved the filling of 185 Group-C Junior Pump Operator posts under the Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) Department through the JRBT. Applicants must have passed Madhyamik and possess an ITI certificate.

In another major decision, 57 faculty positions at the College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry will be filled through the TPSC. The vacancies include 17 Professors, 20 Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors.

The Cabinet also approved allotment of 2.5 Gandas of land in Agartala to Commonwealth Games gold medalist Asmita Dey, along with payment of a premium amounting to Rs 33, 50,239.

Additionally, the state government has decided to establish new fire stations at Boxanagar, Manu Bankul, Garjee and Ganganagar. The Cabinet also approved an increase in financial assistance provided by the Political (Pension) Department to the families of ex-servicemen.
