Rakhi Bandhan: CM vows firm commitment to women's safety, ensures strict action on crime against women
On the occasion of Rakhi Bandhan, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Wednesday said that women's safety and security remain the top priorities of the present BJP-led government in Tripura and said that the government will not tolerate any crimes against women.
“The government is fully committed to taking all necessary actions to ensure stringent punishment for those accused of crimes against women. All requisite measures will be undertaken in accordance with the law”, said Dr. Saha.
Dr Saha said this during an event held at the Chief Minister’s official residence at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Lane in Agartala, organized to celebrate the Rakhi Bandhan festival.
The Rakhi Bandhan festival was celebrated at the Chief Minister's official residence, where women from different sections of society tied Rakhis to the Chief Minister, exchanging greetings and blessings.
“Today is Rakhi Purnima and Rakhi Bandhan festival which is a very holy day. The state government is committed to empowering the women of the state, making them stronger in all aspects. As a brother, I am dedicated to ensuring the well-being of women, including providing comprehensive security and enhancing their socio-economic status. Furthermore, the government is addressing these issues with utmost seriousness. The state government is actively promoting the economic and social development of women through the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Our administration is devoted to empowering the women of the state,” said Dr Saha.
He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is consistently working towards the holistic development of women and emphasized that women in the state are experiencing an improved sense of well-being under the governance of the BJP-IPFT coalition.
“In addition to this, our administration remains steadfast in ensuring their safety. While isolated incidents have regrettably occurred within the state, it remains crucial to ascertain the promptness of actions taken in response to these incidents. The government unequivocally condemns instances of domestic violence, rape, or any form of crime against women, regardless of their location within the state. In line with legal provisions, swift and stringent measures will be taken against the perpetrators. As part of our efforts to enhance security, surveillance cameras have also been strategically deployed within urban areas," Chief Minister added.
Among the prominent women personalities who tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister are Chief Whip of Tripura legislative Assembly Kalyani Roy, MLAs Antara Sarkar Deb, Mina Rani Sarkar, Swapna Majumder, BJP state general secretary Papia Dutta, Mahila Morcha state president Jharna Debbarma and others.
