A broad-daylight burglary at a house in the Tepania Chhara Bazar area of Udaipur has created panic among local residents. Thieves allegedly broke the locks of the house and fled with around Rs 2 lakh in cash and gold jewellery.
According to local sources, the house belongs to Purnima Debnath, a widow who has been living alone in the area for a long time. On Tuesday afternoon, she left home to attend an ‘Annaprashan’ ceremony at Matabari in Udaipur.
Purnima reportedly left for the invitation at around 12 noon. After attending the ceremony, she returned home a few hours later and was shocked to find the locks on two doors of the house broken.
On entering the house, she found household belongings scattered around. The lock of a sukesh (trunk) inside the house was also found broken. Upon checking it, she discovered that the cash and gold jewellery kept inside were missing.
Purnima alleged that the thieves had taken approximately Rs 2 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments. The incident has left her deeply distressed, particularly as she has been living alone since the death of her husband.
After the incident came to light, Radhakishorepur Police Station personnel reached the spot and inspected the house. Police have launched an investigation to determine how the burglars entered the house and identify those involved in the theft.
Local village head Ranjan Sharma also visited the spot after receiving information about the incident and took stock of the situation.
The broad-daylight burglary in a populated area has raised concerns over security among local residents. The victim has urged police to conduct a swift investigation, identify the culprits and recover the stolen cash and jewellery. Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
