Six Bangladeshi nationals were convicted in an Immigration and Foreigners Act case and sentenced each of them to 50 days of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 4,000 by the Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Amarpur under Gomati district on Wednesday.
Police sources said that the court further ordered that in default of payment of the fine, each of the convicts would have to undergo an additional one month of simple imprisonment.
The convicted persons have been identified as Md. Asmaul Ali (22), Abdul Rahaman (24), Sk Sohag (19), Md. Hridoy (19), Md. Sukkar Miah (19), and Md. Sariful Islam (20), all Bangladeshi nationals from different districts of Bangladesh.
According to the Tripura Police, the case dates back to August 16, 2026, when Birganj police station personnel, acting on secret information regarding the movement of Bangladeshi nationals, conducted a special vehicle-checking operation at Thakcherra Naka Post.
At around 12:50 pm, police intercepted a Wagon R car bearing registration number TR-03-T-0284 and detained six Bangladeshi nationals travelling in the vehicle. During interrogation, they reportedly disclosed that they had entered India illegally without valid travel documents or passports.
Following investigation, SI Malin Debbarma of Birganj police station submitted a charge sheet against the accused persons on August 31, 2026.
The trial court subsequently found all six accused guilty of the offence punishable under Section 21 of the Immigration and Foreigners Act and pronounced the sentences on September 30.
