Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said that medical students who are staying outside of the state, started returning due to Super-Specialty Services introduced by the BJP-led state government in the health department.

Chief Minister Dr Saha said this while inaugurating a Voluntary Blood Donation Camp organized by the health workers of AGMC and GBP Hospitals on Tuesday.

“Blood has no religious barriers. People of any faith can receive blood from individuals of other faiths. There is no distinction between male and female blood. Blood can be donated by anyone between 18 and 60 years of age, and up to 65 years if they are in good health. We are all united. Through blood donation, a spiritual connection is forged between people,” he said.

Dr Saha mentioned that Agartala Government Medical College was established in 2005, followed by the establishment of Tripura Medical College. While there is healthy competition between these two medical colleges, private investors are now expressing interest in setting up more medical colleges in the state.

“Investors are seeking various forms of assistance, including land. A positive sentiment about Tripura has spread across the country. The message that work can be conducted in a stable environment in Tripura has been conveyed. Many people are coming from outside to invest not only in medical colleges but also in other sectors,” said Dr Saha.

The Chief Minister further emphasized the importance of a sincere relationship between doctors and health workers, and urged for this relationship to be maintained with patients and their relatives.

“However, there should be no harassment of doctors. Such incidents are by no means desirable. The state government is keen on further developing medical services. Funds have been allocated in this year's budget for the development of the healthcare system. Around 100 sub-health centers are slated to be established. Additionally, 9 super specialties have been introduced to enhance healthcare services. Initiatives have been taken to upgrade the overall infrastructure of district hospitals in order to alleviate the pressure on GB hospitals,” he explained.

He reiterated that the state government has given special emphasis to strengthen the infrastructure in the development of the healthcare system.

“Even children from our state who pursued their medical studies outside the state have started returning due to the availability of super-specialty services here, in response to the government's call,” Dr Saha added.

Medical Superintendent of GBP Hospital, Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, Director of Medical Education, Prof. HP Sharma, and other distinguished guests were present at the occasion.
