One among two injured Indian villagers, who sustained critical injuries in a clash with three Bangladeshi cattle lifters in Bidyabil, a border village at Khowai district on Wednesday has succumbed due to his critical injuries at GB Hospital on Thursday.

While, after a flag meeting among two border guards BSF and BGG, the bodies of three Bangladeshi cattle lifters were handed over to authorities of Bangladesh government through Poharmura border on Thursday afternoon after all legal formalities.

Annoyed with growing incidents of cattle lifting by suspected Bangladeshi lifters, three unidentified Bangladeshi cattle lifters were hacked to death, while two Indian villagers sustained injuries in a clash between the two sides in Bidyabil, a border village at Khowai district on Wednesday.

Among two injured Indian villagers Mithun Telanga  and Dhirendra Telanga were admitted to Khowai district hospital on Wednesday after they received grievous injuries during indiscriminate attack by 3 Bangladeshi cattle lifters. Later, Mithun Telanga was referred to GB Hospital after his condition deteriorated, but on Thursday morning he succumbed due to critical wounds.

Soon after reports of the death of injured villagers, the angry villagers of Bidyabil staged a protest against BSF jawans of 70thbattalions, who were posted in the Bidyabil border for their alleged dereliction in duties.

Local villagers alleged when BSF jawans of 70th battalion took over the charges of guarding the Ashrambari border, the infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals along with cow lifters became rampant.

They also alleged a section of Border Guards in lieu of  bribes allowed Bangladeshi miscreants to enter into Indian territory and committed their crimes, which is the result of trespassing of 3 Bangladeshi cattle lifters on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, police sources said that after post-mortems of 3 Bangladeshi cattle lifters at Khowai district hospital, these bodies were handed over through Poharmura border in presence of senior BSF officials along with counterparts in Bangladesh. Officer-in-Charge (OCs) of Khowai and Champahowar police stations along with Additional SP of the district were also present.

The company commander of 55th battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Jahidul Islam and OC of Chunarughat police station of Bangladesh, Abul Khayer represented the Bangladesh team and received the mortal remains of 3 cattle lifters.

It may be recalled here that 3 Bangladeshi cattle lifters had crossed barbed wire fencing with intention of cow lifting, but two villagers noticed their movements on Wednesday morning in a rubber garden at Bidyabil under Champahowar police station. They noticed three Bangladeshi men hiding in the rubber garden, and when challenged, the cattle lifters turned aggressive and attacked them with sharp cutting weapons and seriously injured them.

Somehow, two injured villagers returned to their village and informed others. A large group of villagers then rushed to the border area, detained the three Bangladeshis after a clash, and allegedly hacked them to death, said Officer in Charge (OC) of Champahower police station, Dilip Debbarma.

After the incident, a police team rushed to the spot and recovered three bodies lying in a pool of blood, he said, adding that the two injured villagers were admitted to a nearby hospital.
