Three more Bangladeshi arrested from Sidhai, 8 detain in present week
Amidst continuous infiltration from the unrest that hit Bangladesh into Tripura, three more citizens of the neighbouring country were detained from Megliband and Katlamura villages under Sidhai police station of West Tripura on Saturday while they were planning to exfiltrate to Bangladesh.
Police sources said that based on secret information over presence of Bangladeshi, the BSF jawans in association with police personnel from Sidhai police station raided at Megliband and Katlamura villages and managed to arrest three Bangladeshi, who are trying to exfiltrate to Bangladesh after arrived in Tripura.
Earlier, on Tuesday (November 4th) evening the local villagers of Bachaibari under Khowai police station managed to detain two Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian touts, when they entered Indian territory. After detaining them, irate villagers indiscriminately attacked them and severely injured all four
Later, a police team including SP of Khowai district and OC of Khowai police station rushed to the spot and rescued all four persons and they were immediately shifted to Khowai district hospital.
The infiltration into the Northeastern states especially in Tripura and Assam has continued for Bangladesh and in the last few months hundreds of Bangladesh nationals along with Rohingyas were arrested by security forces from different borders of the state
On November7th , in a successful operation against narcotics smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF), Tripura in a joint operation with PR Bari police station under South Tripura district in the presence of Deputy collector and Magistrate Belonia carried out house search in an Indian village Uttar Awasthipara, Dakshin Krishnapur, Radhanagar and seized 168 kg Ganja.
After a brief half, especially after operation ‘Sindoor’, the infiltration was almost stopped due tight security in the entire stretch of border, but during the past months dozens of Bangladeshis along with a tout were arrested from different parts of the state.
On November 4th, the Government Railway Police (GRP) of Agartala Railway station on the basis of secret information, managed to detained three more Bangladeshi nationals, identified as Pritom Sarkar (22) of Lakshmipur district of Bangladesh, Sujon Das (37) of Lakshmipur and Kanak Banik (32) of same Lakshmipur district of Bangladesh and one Indian Border tout, identified as Bikram Das (39 of Nalchar under Sepahijala district.
During their interrogation they stated that they were entered into India through South Tripura border, said OC of GRP and all were arrested under a specific case under sections 61(2)/249(b)/143(2) BNS, 2023 & U/S- 14(A)(b)/ 14(C) of the Foreigner Act-1946 & U/S- 03 of IPP Act (Entry into India Amendment-2000).
GRP sources said that during interrogation, arrested Bangladeshi revealed their travel plan and wanted to go to Kolkata by train.
