Tipra-Motha to knocks Supreme Court if necessary for early VC polls, Pradyot

Three days after meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, supremo of Tipra-Motha, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Monday in Agartala said they are very much optimistic over the assurance given by Shah for fulfillment of tripartite accord, but express his resentment over delay for Village Committee (VC) elections in Tripura.
While speaking with media persons at the outside of Agartala court complex on Monday pradyot said that the Tipra-Motha continuously demanded for election of Village Committee (VC) at the earliest and have also urged the governments to expedite the matter.
“Our people are being deprived of their legitimate rights and we cannot sit idle for the greater interest of our people,” said Pradyot and added that he had already talked to some advocates in New Delhi and if necessary they would soon knock on the door of the Supreme Court to ensure early VC elections.
“We are in alliance with BJP led government in Tripura and it does not mean, we cannot say anything to protect the rights of our people,” said Pradyot and claimed that if the administration keeps maintaining their silence over VC elections, then they have every right to knock on the door of the Supreme Court.
While, highlighting the discussions with the Union Home Minister on August 1st last, Pradyot said that Tipra Motha on Friday met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and he has assured them that Shah would personally ensure that the government of India’s commitment is upheld towards the ‘Tiprasa’ (tribal) people.
Debbarma, who led a party delegation, met Shah in New Delhi on Friday to discuss the modalities of the implementation of the tripartite accord.
“Had a very good meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord for the people of our state. He assured all of us that he will personally ensure that the government of India's commitment is upheld towards the Tiprasa people,” Debbarma said.
He said that an eight-member delegation met Shah and discussed various issues of the indigenous tribes in Tripura and implementation of the tripartite accord.
The Motha delegation included BJP Lok Sabha member from the Tripura East parliamentary seat, Kriti Devi Debbarman, who is also the elder sister of the Motha chief.
Motha leaders were in the national capital for the past 12 days, and in Delhi, they met the Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and BJP President and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda and discussed various issues.
Motha leaders demanded that the ECI conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Tripura, similar to the procedure being adopted in Bihar.
He also said that the ECI told them that the SIR of the electoral rolls would be conducted across the country, including Tripura.
It may be recalled here that after a year-long hectic parleys and after signing a tripartite agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government on March 2 last year, the then opposition Tipra-Motha with 13 MLAs joined the BJP-led coalition government in the state on March 7 last year, adding a new twist to Tripura's politics.
The two Motha MLAs -- Animesh Debbarma and Brishaketu Debbarma -- were inducted into the ministry headed by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.
