As announced by supremo and founder of Tipra-Motha, Pradyot Kishore Debbarma “fast unto death” programme to fulfill the demand for constitutional solution, the regional Tipra-Motha on Sunday decided to go for an indefinite hunger strike from February 28 at Baramura hill range on the national highway-8 and a gathering of 50,000 people will be held in Khumwlung on March 3 for central rally.

All the rank and file of Tipra-Motha including all MLAs, MDCs and leaders of central committee, women and youth fronts met together at Manikya Enclave in Agartala led by party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhwal.

After hours long meeting, Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhwal speaking with media persons said that Tipra-Motha is going on an indefinite hunger strike from February 28 due to non-fulfilment of their greater Tipraland demand at Baramura hills.

He said that Motha’s chief advisor Pradyot Kishore Debbarma along with other party leaders will join the hunger strike programme for an indefinite period.

“Since last one year, out leader Maharaja Pradyot Kishore time to time had consulted and attended series of meeting with authorities of government of India and held detailed discussion over the demands of indigenous people of Tripura for a constitutional solution,” said Hrangkhwal and added that their fight is going on for the future of state’s people.

He alleged that the Indian government is not fulfilling any of their demands and the government is doing politics. Discussions and meetings have been held several times, but Tipra-Motha got nothing in reality.

‘Our hunger strike will go on peacefully and democratically for an indefinite period till the written assurance of fulfillment of our demands from central government,” said Hrangkhwal .

He said that his party is sticking to its 'Greater Tipraland' demand and "Centre should fulfil our demand and they should come out clearly with their views about our demand".

Replying to questions from the media, Hrangkhwal said thousands of their supporters from every part of the state will gather at Hataikotor (Baramura) and so far they did not decide for a road blockade.

He said that Motha will take the decision later and during their hunger strike movement, if they decide to go for blockade of national highway, they will inform the media.

Political analysts believe that the announcement of this hunger strike is to put pressure on New Delhi and BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
